The Set-Up: Part 5 |
Knowledge AcquisitionLots of industries require continued learning in order to stay on top of the field. This is especially true in technology, whether it be coding or marketing. If you haven’t learned something new in the last 6mo then you’re outdated and obsolete in the field. Keeping up with tech can be a daunting to say the least but there are some handy tools to make it a little easier. Social bookmarking tools like Technorati and Delicious allow people to share and tag pages they found to be helpful. While many people still uses these tools they are quickly being replaced by superior search algorithms that make search engines display more relevant results without the hassle of anyone having to tag/bookmark a link for others to see. Following relevant people on twitter, facebook and google + is a great way to have a stream of useful information coming at you, especially if you use a tool like yoono to aggregate them all together. My personal favorite knowledge resource is still the rss feed. It’s been around for a while now and it shows no sign of going anywhere. Fun tools like feedsquares can make it really easy and appealing to view your feeds. In many ways it’s important to think about keeping up on tech like you think about reading the morning paper or listening to the news. There are lots of ways to view the news online and some great tools for making the news as relevant as possible. I think it’s a great thing to challenge yourself to spend a month checking into tech news and updates on a daily basis. Read about what is going on in the tech world and see at the end of the month if you’re hooked on staying up on tech.
